CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tetairoa McMillan caught 14 passes for a career-high 192 yards and two touchdowns as the Carolina Panthers beat the Detroit Lions 32-26 on Sunday night.
Bryce Young completed 29 of 41 passes for 329 yards, with both touchdown throws going to McMillan and no interceptions, according to Reuters. Chuba Hubbard added 122 rushing yards on 20 carries and scored twice for Carolina, which improved to 2-2 and won at home for the first time this season.
McMillan scored on a 32-yard reception in the second quarter and a 10-yard reception in the third, and he converted a third-and-14 late in the fourth quarter with an 18-yard sideline catch, according to NBC Sports. He had been held to two catches for 17 yards in the previous week against Cleveland.
Detroit rallies late but comes up short
Jared Goff threw for 412 yards on 32-of-52 passing for Detroit, with Jameson Williams catching six passes for 102 yards, according to Reuters. The Lions, now also 2-2, cut the margin to six points with 3:38 remaining on Goff’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta.
Detroit got the ball back at its own 13-yard line with 2:06 left but, without timeouts, did not record a first down. The score had been tied 16-16 at halftime.
Carolina’s defense limited Detroit to two touchdowns despite Goff’s yardage total, with Jake Bates making four field goals for the Lions from 54, 43, 41 and 26 yards, according to Reuters.
