Brewers Sweep Dodgers 6-4 in NLCS Game 4, Reach First World Series Since 1982
The Milwaukee Brewers rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday night, completing a four-game sweep in the National League Championship Series and reaching the World Series for the first time in 44 years.
LOS ANGELES — The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series. For the second time in franchise history, and the first time in 44 years, Milwaukee won the National League pennant on Thursday night, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 at Dodger Stadium to sweep the National League Championship Series in four games.
The Brewers fell behind 4-0 in the second inning. Andy Pages drove in the game’s first run with a single, and Shohei Ohtani followed with a three-run home run, his first since mid-August and his first extra-base hit of the postseason. Milwaukee had been swept out of the NLCS by the Dodgers a year ago. This time the Brewers returned it.

Brewers erase a 4-0 deficit
Jake Bauers started the comeback with a two-run ground-rule double off Tyler Glasnow in the fourth, cutting the Dodgers’ lead to 4-2. An inning later, Bauers drew a bases-loaded walk from Alex Vesia to tie the game at 4-4. Garrett Mitchell gave Milwaukee the lead for good in the sixth with a home run off Tanner Scott, his second straight night with a homer. Bauers earned NLCS MVP honors, according to DodgerBlue.
Milwaukee’s bullpen held the line. Dustin May gave up the four second-inning runs, then threw two scoreless frames. JoJo Romero added two scoreless innings, and Aaron Ashby closed with three scoreless for the save, his second of the postseason. Ashby stranded the tying run at third base twice: in the seventh he struck out Ohtani after Andy Pages led off with a double, and in the eighth he escaped after Will Smith reached third when Sal Frelick could not handle a bouncing ball. Ashby worked a 1-2-3 ninth, and Jackson Chourio caught Kiké Hernández’s long fly to left for the final out.

World Series opens Oct. 23 in Milwaukee
The Brewers will open the World Series at home on Oct. 23 against the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays. The Guardians lead that series 2-1 after winning 3-2 on Thursday.

Milwaukee’s only previous World Series appearance came in 1982, when the club was still in the American League and lost in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. This is the franchise’s first National League pennant. According to Yardbarker, the Brewers are the second franchise to win pennants in both leagues, joining the Houston Astros, and the 10th team to sweep a league championship series since the seven-game format began in 1985.
