Nvidia Nears $6 Trillion Market Value as Shares Return to Record High

Nvidia shares climbed back to a record on Tuesday, lifting the chipmaker's market value to just under $5.8 trillion and within reach of $6 trillion, as a large buyback and strong sales outlook drew investors back to the stock, according to Bloomberg.

Nvidia shares returned to a record high on Tuesday, putting the chipmaker’s market value at just under $5.8 trillion and within reach of becoming the first company valued at $6 trillion, according to Bloomberg. Investors have moved back into the artificial-intelligence chipmaker after the company issued a strong revenue outlook and expanded its share-buyback program.

The stock has risen 28% so far this year, adding about $1.2 trillion in market value, and Bloomberg reports it has been the largest single contributor to the S&P 500’s 14% gain in 2026. The rebound follows a weaker stretch earlier in the year, when the shares were down 11% through March 30 amid investor questions about the scale of spending on AI infrastructure.

Buyback and valuation draw buyers

Nvidia recently authorized an additional $150 billion for share repurchases under its existing program, which Chief Executive Jensen Huang said reflected confidence in the company’s long-term opportunity, according to Bloomberg. Analysts cited the combination of rapid growth and a comparatively low valuation multiple as a reason investors have treated the stock as sheltered from higher interest rates. Bloomberg reports the shares traded at about 17 times expected earnings over the next 12 months, below the S&P 500’s roughly 19 times and near Nvidia’s lowest level in a decade.

For its most recent outlook, the company projected sales growth of 70% for fiscal 2028, above the 45% analysts had expected, and Bloomberg reports net income is expected to double in fiscal 2027 on revenue growth of about 90%. Even so, Nvidia has trailed the broader semiconductor group this year: Bloomberg notes the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has gained 86% in 2026, led by sharp rises at other chipmakers.
