Jalen Hurts Will Miss Rest of 2026 Season After Doctors Find Blood Clots in His Lungs

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the 2026 season after doctors found blood clots in both of his lungs, the team and his agent said Monday.
Hurts, 28, was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli after weekend testing, according to a joint statement from the Eagles and his agent, Nicole Lynn. He was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

His treatment will consist only of blood thinners, the statement said, which will keep him out of contact activities, including football, for at least three months. The statement called him clinically stable with no significant functional limitations and said the team expects a full recovery.
How the diagnosis changed
The problem began Oct. 4, when Hurts hurt his calf against the Los Angeles Rams. A team ultrasound in London found what was called a superficial blood clot, and doctors cleared him to play in the Oct. 11 game against Jacksonville, a 19-17 loss in which he threw for 220 yards and one touchdown.
A follow-up ultrasound later that week showed the clot had moved. The Eagles ruled him out of Sunday’s game against Carolina, and further testing revealed the clots in his lungs. Backup Tanner McKee started in Hurts’ place.
Through five games, Hurts had completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 933 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 107 rushing yards and one score. The Eagles entered Week 7 at 2-4.
