Motorist Found Shot Dead on George Washington Bridge Upper Level; Gunman at Large
A driver was found dead with a gunshot wound on the westbound upper level of the George Washington Bridge on Tuesday evening, closing all New Jersey-bound lanes as police searched for the shooter.
A motorist was shot and killed Tuesday evening on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge, where police responding to a crash found the driver with a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting shut down all lanes heading to New Jersey as investigators searched for the gunman, who was still at large late Tuesday.

Port Authority police officers responded to a reported single-vehicle crash on the westbound upper level around 7:05 p.m., according to a Port Authority spokesperson quoted by NorthJersey.com. The driver was taken to Englewood Hospital in New Jersey and pronounced dead, law enforcement sources told the New York Post. No one else was hurt.
Search for the shooter
The New York Post reported that the shooting was a drive-by and that the suspect fled. Investigators are reviewing security camera footage for clues, the paper said. Police had not publicly identified the driver late Tuesday.

Upper level closed during the night
The bridge’s official X account warned drivers during the night that the upper level toward New Jersey was blocked by police activity and told them to seek alternate routes. The Port Authority said the shooting closed the westbound upper level of the crossing while investigators worked the scene.

The incident remained under investigation, NorthJersey.com reported.
