President Donald Trump is expected to speak at 3 p.m. on Sunday inside McMorran Place Arena in downtown Port Huron, Michigan, at a midterm rally, according to the Port Huron Times Herald. The newspaper reports that Trump will be the first sitting president to visit Port Huron.

The line of people hoping to attend kept growing through the morning. Shortly before 9 a.m., it stretched more than a block, the Times Herald reported, and some people had arrived as early as 7 a.m. Ken Gunnels of Clio, who got in line about 7 a.m., told the newspaper, “We are in a battle for the soul of this country.” Judy Carty of Marysville said she was attending because, “I’d like to hear what he’s going to do to keep our borders straight.”

What attendees need to know

Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the Port Huron Police Department has asked attendees to arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. Admission is first come, first served, and once the arena reaches capacity, no more attendees can be admitted. After parking, attendees are to go to the corner of McMorran Boulevard and Huron Avenue, where they will be screened by the United States Secret Service before entering.

Orange barricades and a police vehicle block an empty downtown street lined with storefronts.

Several streets near the arena are closed for the visit, including Erie Street and Huron Avenue between Glenwood and Grand River avenues, McMorran Boulevard from Erie Street to Huron Avenue, and Superior Street between Bard Street and Andrew Murphy Avenue. Several parking lots near the arena are also closed to the public. The Secret Service prohibits items including firearms, drones, fireworks, laser pointers, balloons, banners and signs at the event.
