Kyle Larson Wins YellaWood 500 at Talladega in Photo Finish and Opens 73-Point Chase Lead
Kyle Larson went from 11th place on the final lap to win Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway by 0.041 seconds over William Byron, and now leads Denny Hamlin by 73 points with two races left.
Kyle Larson won Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, going from 11th place on the final lap of overtime to Victory Lane in his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Larson moved low on the track and passed seven cars in the final quarter-mile of the 2.66-mile oval, according to RACER.

The win was Larson’s first in 59 races on a big drafting-style track. He beat Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron by 0.041 seconds in a photo finish, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ross Chastain right behind them at the line.
“I don’t know, I got really lucky with kinda how everything worked out there,” Larson said after the race. “I was so edgy in turns one and two with the 33 pushing me, he was helping me.”
How the title race stands
With two races left, Larson leads Denny Hamlin by 73 points. He is 74 points ahead of Christopher Bell and 77 points ahead of Chase Briscoe, according to RACER.

Larson said the race was the best speedway race he had run, and he thanked his Chevrolet partners for working with him all day.
Crashes reshaped the field
A late crash involving 15 cars, with five laps left, brought out a red flag. Joey Logano’s car was flipped upside down in the tri-oval after contact from Carson Hocevar, and Logano climbed out on his own after safety crews flipped the car back onto its tires.

An earlier multi-car crash on the backstretch involved 12 cars and eliminated Ryan Blaney, among others. Bell spun and hit the wall coming to pit road on the first pit stop of the race and finished 35th, while Briscoe was eliminated in the late crash and finished 33rd.
Logano is now fifth in the standings, 100 points behind Larson, and Blaney is sixth, 107 points back. Tyler Reddick trails Larson by 126 points, according to RACER.

The series moves next to Martinsville Speedway in Virginia for the Xfinity 500 on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Byron is the defending race winner there, and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott won at Martinsville in the spring.
