Georgia has solidified its grip on No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138 after Week 6, following a road win at Alabama. Texas, meanwhile, tumbled to No. 7 after an ugly rivalry loss to Oklahoma.

The Longhorns avoided an even steeper drop thanks to their comeback win over Ohio State, but that head-to-head victory was not enough to keep Texas ahead of the No. 5 Buckeyes.

According to the re-rank, there is no real debate over the top spot: No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Miami do not have the résumés to challenge the Bulldogs after Saturday’s win in Tuscaloosa.

SEC takes four of the top eight

The Southeastern Conference placed four teams in the top eight: Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, Texas and No. 8 Mississippi. Alabama did not move despite losing by a field goal.

Elsewhere in the SEC, Kentucky jumped 20 spots to No. 20 after beating LSU, while Oklahoma climbed to No. 29 after knocking off the Longhorns. LSU fell to No. 21, Florida dropped to No. 33 and Texas A&M slid to No. 55.

Big Ten shake-up behind UCLA’s surge

UCLA climbed nine spots to No. 9 after edging Oregon 17-15. The Bruins, under new coach Bob Chesney, are seen as having a schedule that could produce 10 wins in the regular season. No. 14 Iowa and No. 15 Southern California also moved up, and Nebraska reached No. 25 after nearly beating No. 5 Indiana.

Oregon sank to No. 37, Minnesota dropped 16 spots to No. 46 and Penn State fell to No. 57.
