Lionel Messi ended his 21-year career with Argentina on Tuesday night, scoring once and setting up two other goals in a 3-0 friendly victory over Benin at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires.

The 39-year-old captain assisted on second-half goals by Nicolas Otamendi and Nico Paz before converting a penalty in the 71st minute, according to USA Today. The goal was the 126th of his international career. He leaves as Argentina’s most-capped player with 208 appearances and as the country’s record scorer, according to Reuters.

More than 85,000 fans filled the stadium for the farewell, according to Reuters, with landmarks across the capital lit in the team’s sky blue and white and fireworks following the final whistle. Messi had announced his international retirement in August, and Argentina brought him back for one final appearance in front of home supporters, according to USA Today.
