UCF Stuns No. 2 BYU 39-31 in Double Overtime for First Win Over a Top-Five Team
Keyone Jenkins threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Grayson Brousseau in the second overtime as UCF beat previously unbeaten No. 2 BYU 39-31 on Saturday in Orlando, after a disputed finish to regulation and a blocked field goal sent the game to overtime.
ORLANDO, Fla., Keyone Jenkins threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Grayson Brousseau in the second overtime, and UCF survived a wild finish in regulation to knock off No. 2 BYU 39-31 on Saturday, handing the Cougars their first loss of the season.

The win gave the Knights (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) their first victory over a top-five team in school history, and the program’s highest-ranked win, according to the school. BYU (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) fell a week after beating then-No. 2 Notre Dame to climb to No. 2.
A disputed finish to regulation
UCF was driving toward a potential game-winning field goal in the final seconds of regulation when Jenkins lost the ball on a play that was ruled a sack on the field. After a replay review, officials changed the ruling to an incomplete pass, and BYU was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, moving the Knights into kicker Will Stone’s range. But BYU blocked Stone’s 47-yard attempt, sending the game to overtime.

After both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime, UCF got a fresh set of downs on a roughing-the-kicker penalty while the Knights had been settling for a field goal. Jenkins then found Brousseau for the go-ahead score and hit the two-point conversion. Needing a touchdown and a two-point conversion to force a third overtime, BYU drove to the UCF 4-yard line, but Bear Bachmeier’s fourth-down pass to Walker Lyons fell incomplete.
Fans storm the field
Knights fans poured onto the field after the final play, sliding down from the stands and chanting around the 50-yard line, according to video from the scene. The win snapped BYU’s six-game winning streak.

“I’m proud of our kids,” UCF head coach Scott Frost said in a sideline interview after the game. “I’m happy for UCF. That’s the weirdest end to a game I’ve ever seen.”
Jenkins finished with 293 passing yards and three touchdowns in his fifth start since replacing Alonza Barnett III, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. “Our backup is not a backup. He had an unbelievable game tonight,” Frost said.
