Microsoft Offers Voluntary Exit Packages to About 60,000 Employees in Four Countries

Microsoft has offered voluntary exit packages to about 60,000 employees in the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom, according to Business Insider and Reuters. The time-limited offer covers eligible employees at level 70 and below on participating teams.

Microsoft is offering buyouts to around 60,000 employees, Business Insider reported on Monday, citing a company spokesperson. Reuters reported the same figure, and said Microsoft did not immediately comment on the number when Reuters contacted the company.

The offer, called the Voluntary Exit Offer, is time-limited and voluntary, Microsoft said in a blog post on Monday. Amy Coleman, the company’s chief people officer, said eligible employees would receive an email with a link to their offer details within the next few hours, according to Sky News. The program gives eligible employees financial support and career planning resources, Coleman said.

Who is eligible, and who is not

The offer is available to eligible employees in participating teams in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and the United States at level 70 and below, Microsoft said. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters the offer will affect divisions including AI experiences, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox and Windows + Devices, and will exclude units such as marketing, commercial business and security.

Microsoft said the program builds on insights gained from a previous voluntary retirement program. Sky News reported that the move follows 4,800 job losses announced in the summer amid a reset of its Xbox gaming unit and a shift toward AI tools. Sky News also reported that Microsoft has more than 220,000 workers worldwide, with about 6,000 in the United Kingdom, and that it was not clear how many people Microsoft aims to lose or whether there is a target.
