GAINESVILLE, Fla. — South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score Saturday as the Gamecocks beat Florida 38-19 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, snapping an eight-game SEC losing streak and handing the Gators their second straight loss.
The Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) erased an early 7-0 deficit on homecoming weekend, took a 17-10 lead into halftime following a 45-minute lightning delay, and scored 21 straight points in the second half to pull away. It was South Carolina’s first win in Gainesville since 2014 and its first victory over Florida since 2021, according to the university’s athletics site.
Turnovers doom Florida again
Florida (4-2, 2-2 SEC) turned the ball over three times. Quarterback Aaron Philo threw an interception and lost a fumble, and backup Tramell Jones Jr. was intercepted in the fourth quarter, according to GatorsWire. Philo completed 21 of 28 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown before being replaced late, per Florida’s athletics site.
The Gators managed just 120 rushing yards and played without injured wide receiver Vernell Brown III. Coach Jon Sumrall’s conservative clock management at the end of the first half drew boos from the sellout crowd, and the loss extended Florida’s slide a week after it fell to Missouri.
