Drake Maye Totals Five Touchdowns as Patriots Rout Raiders 45-17
Drake Maye accounted for five touchdowns and more than 500 yards of offense as New England dismantled Las Vegas 45-17 at Gillette Stadium, pulling the Patriots even with the Raiders at 3-2.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Drake Maye totaled five touchdowns and the New England Patriots rolled past the Las Vegas Raiders 45-17 on Sunday at Gillette Stadium, winning for the second straight week and pulling even with Las Vegas at 3-2.
Maye was sharp from the opening drive, finding a wide-open Pop Douglas for a 35-yard touchdown on the first scoring drive and adding touchdown passes to Hunter Henry (11 yards) and Kyle Williams (34 yards) before a 3-yard rushing score and an 8-yard strike to Douglas in the fourth. The Patriots topped 500 yards of total offense, according to the Providence Journal’s live coverage.
It was the second time in Maye’s career he has accounted for five touchdowns in a game, and his first time throwing three touchdown passes in back-to-back games. Per Patriots communications, he is the first New England player with three touchdown passes in consecutive games since Tom Brady in 2018.
Raiders had no answers
The Raiders (3-2), who entered 3-1 after a loss to Kansas City last week, never slowed New England’s offense. Kirk Cousins and tight end Brock Bowers provided the visitors’ bright spots — Bowers caught a 13-yard touchdown and had four catches for 69 yards by halftime — but Las Vegas trailed 21-7 at the break and never got closer. Dylan Laube’s 2-yard touchdown run cut it to 38-17 in the fourth before Maye’s final scoring strike closed it out.
The day doubled as a celebration for the franchise: the Patriots wore their throwback uniforms and honored Hall of Fame kicker Adam Vinatieri at halftime, with owner Robert Kraft presenting him his Hall of Fame ring.
Injury watch
New England did lose left tackle Will Campbell to a knee injury in the second quarter; he walked off with assistance and was ruled questionable to return, according to the Providence Journal. Running back TreVeyon Henderson was also evaluated for an ankle injury.
The win gives Maye back-to-back strong outings after last week’s 29-26 road win at Buffalo, when he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 4. The Patriots’ second-year quarterback looks increasingly like the centerpiece of a team finding its footing — and the Raiders, after starting 3-0, have now dropped two straight.
