Google Launches Fitbit Edge Fitness Tracker at $179.99 With Replaceable Battery

Google opened preorders Monday for the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 fitness tracker that sits between the Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch. It reaches stores on October 27 with a larger screen, upgraded GPS, on-wrist ECG and Google's first repairable, replaceable-battery design.

Google is taking orders for the Google Fitbit Edge, the newest version of its Fitbit wearable activity tracker, with prices starting at $179.99, the company said Monday. The device officially goes on sale in stores on October 27, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

The Edge sits between the screenless Fitbit Air, which Google began shipping in May for $100, and the Pixel Watch smartwatch. “It’s small and comfortable but also a powerful daily companion that’s designed to help you reach your wellness goals,” Google said in its announcement. The device succeeds the Charge 6, following weeks of leaks and a premature appearance in Google’s own promotional material for the Pixel 11, according to Wareable.

Repairability and upgraded sensors

The headline feature is durability of a different kind: the Edge is engineered as Google’s first repairable fitness tracker, with a modular internal architecture and a replaceable battery. It is housed in 100% recycled aluminum, measures 11.5 millimeters thin and carries an OLED display with 46% more viewing area than previous Charge trackers, plus a redesigned tactile side button for workout controls.

An upgraded GPS chipset is claimed to deliver 40% better route-mapping accuracy than the Charge 6, backed by an integrated altimeter that measures elevation changes. The exercise app supports more than 50 manual workout modes and can automatically recognize up to 100 activities.

Health tracking and battery life

For health monitoring, the Edge includes an on-wrist ECG app, continuous optical heart rate tracking and a dedicated skin temperature sensor, along with background Health Guardian algorithms designed to flag trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance. Google rates battery life at up to seven days, and says five minutes of magnetic charging provides a full day of tracking.

The launch lands Google deeper into a crowded wearable market, competing with Apple Watches and devices from Whoop and Oura, Dow Jones Newswires noted. Research from Circana showed an 88% increase in fitness tracker purchases between 2024 and 2025, according to the Wall Street Journal.
