Arizona’s Ivan Kharchenkov scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss, and Derek Dixon added 18 points. The Wildcats cut an 11-point deficit with a 10-point run and pulled within 78-75 with 1:06 left on five straight points from Dixon, but a dunk from Dailey and free throws from Nikola Kusturica and Perry closed the game.

UCLA shot 38% from the field and made 10 of 29 three-point attempts. Arizona shot 36.7% and made 7 of 30 from behind the arc.

More upsets on opening night

Memphis beat No. 18 Iowa State 80-76 in the first unranked-over-ranked upset of the season. Senior transfer Jayden Reid led all scorers with 26 points, and the Tigers have now won nine straight season openers under coach Penny Hardaway. It was Memphis’ first win over a ranked opponent on opening day since 1995, when the Tigers beat No. 24 Purdue 91-76.
