Rob Lowe’s Son Matthew Marries Emily Markus in Santa Barbara Ceremony Officiated by Gwyneth Paltrow
Matthew Lowe, 33, married fiancée Emily Markus in Santa Barbara on Oct. 10, with Gwyneth Paltrow officiating and stars including Katy Perry, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldaña among the guests.
Rob Lowe’s eldest son is a married man. Matthew Lowe, the 33-year-old son of Rob Lowe and jewelry designer Sheryl Berkoff, married his fiancée, Emily Markus, on Oct. 10, 2026, in Santa Barbara, California, a representative for Rob Lowe confirmed to USA Today on Oct. 11. Longtime family friend Gwyneth Paltrow officiated the ceremony.
Page Six was first to report the wedding. Photos obtained by the outlet show a star-studded guest list including Katy Perry, Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo, Zoe Saldaña and Marco Perego-Saldaña, and Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger. The groom’s family, including younger brother John Owen Lowe, was seated in the front row.
On Oct. 11, the newlywed shared a glimpse of his big weekend by re-posting several attendees’ photos and videos to his Instagram Stories. In one clip, the groom takes a dip in the ocean just hours before the ceremony. Markus and Matthew Lowe announced their engagement on July 3, 2025, with social media posts showing Matthew getting down on one knee in the backyard of a home.
A family celebration with a bittersweet note
The celebration came less than two weeks after the death of Matthew Lowe’s 13-year-old cousin Fiona Lowe, the second daughter of Emmy-winning director Chad Lowe — Rob Lowe’s brother — who died by suicide on Sept. 29. Chad Lowe, his wife, Kim Painter, and their daughters Mabel and Nixie were photographed among the wedding guests.
Unlike his father and younger brother, Matthew Lowe has stayed largely out of the Hollywood spotlight. After graduating from Duke University and earning a law degree, he works for an asset management and insurance holding company. “Matthew and I have so many businesses that we’re doing together. He is currently working for Eldridge, and they own the Dodgers, and they own Chelsea [Football Club],” Rob Lowe told People in 2024. “I get the creative show business with Johnny, and the business branding, investment opportunity with Matthew.”
John Owen Lowe, by contrast, joined the family business, working alongside his father on projects including the Netflix series “Unstable.”
