Brewers Beat Padres 3-1 in Game 4 to Advance to NLCS Against Dodgers
Milwaukee beat San Diego 3-1 on Wednesday night at Petco Park to close out the Division Series and set up a National League Championship Series meeting with Los Angeles starting Oct. 11.
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 on Wednesday night at Petco Park in Game 4 of the National League Division Series to advance to the National League Championship Series, according to USA TODAY.
Milwaukee took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single that brought home the go-ahead run, then added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly after a double moved a runner to third, according to USA TODAY. San Diego had tied the game earlier on a solo home run.
Pitching holds and a late defensive play
Milwaukee used two pitchers for most of the game to limit San Diego’s offense and preserve the bullpen, according to USA TODAY. San Diego threatened in the eighth when a deep drive with a runner aboard was caught at the center-field wall, ending the best late chance to tie the score. The Padres had extended the series by winning Game 3, but their season ended with the Game 4 loss.
NLCS next against Los Angeles
The win sends Milwaukee to face the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. According to USA TODAY, Game 1 is scheduled for Oct. 11 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, with Game 2 on Oct. 12 before the series shifts to Los Angeles.
