One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store at the Solano Town Center mall in Fairfield, California, on Friday night, police said.
Officers responded at about 8:30 p.m. local time on Friday, October 30. Seven people were struck by gunfire, and one of them died at the scene, Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall told reporters. The six injured people were taken to hospitals, with at least three in critical condition, Marshall said. Police have not released the victims’ identities or ages.

In an update on Saturday, October 31, the Fairfield Police Department said investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a targeted incident involving a single suspect inside the store. Police have not released information about the suspect and said detectives are reviewing footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible.

The FBI’s Sacramento field office said it deployed its evidence response team to assist Fairfield police.
Shoppers fled as shots rang out
A man at the scene told CNN affiliate KCRA that his wife was by the store’s wig section when shots rang out and she ran out the emergency exit. “She said she heard five big bangs … it was loud,” David Bernal told KCRA. “She’s at home right now and still in shock.”

Spirit Halloween said its thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and that it is fully cooperating with local law enforcement. The company said the store will remain closed out of respect for those affected and to support the investigation.
Solano Town Center canceled its scheduled “Mall-O-Ween!” event for Saturday evening, which would have included mall-wide trick-or-treating for children. The shopping center said it will stay open during regular business hours on Halloween.
Police asked anyone with information or video of the incident to email it to 1030mall@fairfield.ca.gov.
