The Lawrence Bishnoi group said it was behind the gunfire at actor Tiger Shroff's car in Mumbai and warned that anyone in the film industry who works with Salman Khan "will be next."

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility on Sunday for the gunfire at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai, saying the attack was a warning to anyone in the film industry who works with Salman Khan, according to reports from news agency IANS and PTI via Mint.

Three motorcycle-borne men opened fire at Shroff’s car near Pushpa Park in the Juhu area on Sunday evening. Shroff escaped unhurt. His driver was struck by a bullet in the hand, according to PTI, and was taken to Nanavati Hospital for treatment.

Warning aimed at Salman Khan

The claim came in a social media post attributed to Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, described as representatives of the group. “We, Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, take responsibility for what happened in the Tiger Shroff incident today,” the post said, according to IANS. “Anyone in the Mumbai film industry who does not listen to us or works with Salman Khan will be next. Wait and watch.” The authenticity of the social media claim had not been officially verified, according to reports.

NDTV reported that a man identifying himself as a member of the gang said Shroff was targeted because of his close association with Khan. “Anyone in the film industry who works separately from us, or works with Salman Khan, we will kill him. And this is the first and last warning,” the man said, according to NDTV.

In an audio recording shared by the Mumbai Crime Branch, a man identified as Anil Pandit demanded that Salman Khan apologize to Lawrence Bishnoi and the Bishnoi community, warning that the gang would “destroy his entire family” if he refused, according to IANS.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to investigate the matter immediately and take strict action against those responsible. Mumbai Police launched a coordinated investigation and deployed 12 specialized teams, according to Zoom TV.

A feud going back to 1998

Lawrence Bishnoi is currently lodged in a jail in Gujarat, where he has been held since 2015. His rivalry with Khan dates to 1998, when Khan killed blackbucks while shooting a film in Rajasthan, a species the Bishnoi community considers sacred, according to Mint.

In April 2024, two motorcycle-borne men fired shots outside Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra, Mumbai, and two members of the gang were arrested, according to Mint.
