Jose Ramirez and Patrick Bailey each homered and finished with two hits for Cleveland. Guardians pitchers recorded 12 strikeouts, while Chicago pitchers issued seven walks. Game 5 is Saturday in Cleveland, with the winner advancing to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Championship Series.
Six-run sixth turns the game
Chicago led early and again in the fifth, but Cleveland broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning. The Guardians sent 10 batters to the plate against three pitchers, with eight straight reaching base. Bailey delivered a go-ahead single and Jo Adell added a two-run single that stretched the lead to 9-4.
Chicago had jumped ahead 2-0 in the third before Cleveland moved in front in the fifth on home runs by Bailey and Ramirez. The White Sox answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim a 4-3 lead, but they could not hold it and stranded 12 runners in the loss.
Ramirez drove in three runs and Bailey two for Cleveland, while Sam Antonacci drove in two runs for Chicago. Miguel Vargas homered in the ninth for the White Sox, who missed a second straight chance to clinch a postseason series at home.
