Early House results point to a long night

In Indiana’s 5th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz trailed Democratic challenger J.D. Ford by 60% to 40% in early returns, with nearly 40% of precincts counted. USA Today noted the margin was expected to narrow as votes cast on Election Day were counted. In Florida, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz won the Democratic seat in the state’s 20th District, according to projections by NBC News and the Associated Press. Wasserman Schultz ran in the 20th after a redistricting by the state’s Republican-led legislature, while she currently represents the 25th District.
Control of Congress still undecided
With polls still open in much of the country on Tuesday night, control of the House and Senate remained undecided. Alaska’s Senate race could take up to two weeks to resolve, according to USA Today, because the state accepts mailed ballots for up to 15 days after Election Day from overseas voters.
President Donald Trump, watching returns from the White House, criticized Fox News coverage in social media posts on Tuesday evening, according to USA Today. Trump wrote that he stopped watching in disgust and complained that the network gave too much time to Democrats.
