Imran Khan Meets His Lawyer at Adiala Jail for the First Time in Seven Months
Barrister Salman Safdar met Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on Monday in a 40-minute meeting, his first with Khan in about seven months and with Bushra Bibi in about 11 months. Safdar said the time was not enough to cover the couple's many cases.
Barrister Salman Safdar, the lawyer for Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, met Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Monday, in a 40-minute meeting arranged by jail authorities at about 4:30 p.m., according to Safdar’s statement posted on X and reporting by Pakistani outlets.
It was Safdar’s first meeting with Khan in about seven months and his first with Bushra Bibi in about 11 months, after repeated applications and requests to the prison administration, Safdar said. He said the session was not long enough to cover all of the couple’s cases and legal matters.
Health, living conditions and new instructions
Safdar said both Khan and Bushra Bibi briefed him on their health conditions and living conditions in jail and gave him fresh instructions on some legal matters and cases. He did not release details of what they told him about their health or the instructions, and no detailed public update has followed beyond his statement.
The meeting comes after months of restricted access. Centreline reported that earlier meetings involving Safdar in 2026, including court-ordered ones, were limited in duration and scope, and that the legal team has complained about access.
Years in custody and cases still pending
Khan has been in jail since August 5, 2023, when he was arrested after his conviction in the Toshakhana case over state gifts, according to reporting by Dawn and Dunya News cited by Zark News. That reporting also says Khan and Bushra Bibi were convicted in another Toshakhana-related case in December 2025, with sentences of 10 years and seven years respectively.
In September 2026, the Islamabad High Court directed jail authorities to end the isolation of Khan and Bushra Bibi and to provide facilities in line with prison rules, according to Shafaqna Pakistan, citing Dunya News.
Separately, Zark News reported that the Lahore High Court has summoned the Lahore deputy commissioner to appear on Wednesday, November 4, in a case over the continued detention of Khan’s three sisters, Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi.
