Predators Rally From 2-0 Down to Beat Canadiens 5-2 on O’Reilly’s Late Power-Play Goal

Nashville erased a 2-0 deficit at Bell Centre on Thursday night, tying the game late in the second period before Ryan O'Reilly tipped in the go-ahead power-play goal with 3:16 remaining in a 5-2 win over Montreal.

The Nashville Predators came back from two goals down to beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 at Bell Centre on Thursday night, winning it on Ryan O’Reilly’s power-play goal late in the third period, according to The Tennessean.

Montreal controlled much of the first half of the game. After a scoreless first period in which Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros kept the Canadiens off the board despite an 11-5 shot advantage, Nick Suzuki scored early in the second period during 4-on-4 play for his third goal of the season, and Alex Newhook added a second goal midway through the period to make it 2-0, according to The Tennessean.

Nashville answered before the intermission. Alex Kerfoot tipped in a point shot for his first goal as a Predator to cut the deficit to 2-1, and Matthew Wood tied the game on the power play during a scramble in front of Montreal goaltender Jacob Fowler, according to The Tennessean.

The Predators then had to play the third period short-handed on the bench after forwards Mavrik Bourque and defenseman William Trudeau left with upper-body injuries in the second period and did not return. Saros preserved the tie by stopping a Josh Anderson breakaway midway through the third, one of 32 saves on the night, according to The Tennessean.

The winner came after Steven Stamkos was tripped by Michael Matheson with 4:15 remaining. On the ensuing power play, O’Reilly tipped a Roman Josi shot past Fowler with 3:16 left to put Nashville ahead 3-2. Adam Edstrom added two empty-net goals to close out the 5-2 final, according to The Tennessean.

The win improved Nashville to 2-1-1 with 5 points, while Montreal fell to 1-2-1 with 3 points. The Predators visit the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 10, and the Canadiens host the Detroit Red Wings the same day, according to The Tennessean. Fowler started in goal for Montreal after backup Sam Montembeault was injured at practice on Oct. 7.
